The National Fraud Initiative seems to be paying dividends even though Whitehall departments are not taking part. In Northern Ireland they found 5000 disabled parking badges were registered to dead people!
In Wales the NFI saved £6m of public sector funds by comparing data across many departments to reduce fraud.
Despite saving over £1bn over sixteen years a number of public sector organizations do not take part in NFI but
are now being encouraged to do so.
In similar area, three people have been arrested for a £1.6m fraud against a government back football scheme where they allegedly submitted fake invoices and documentation to support the fraud including progress reviews and certificates.
